Season Review - 1976/77

What an eventful season! Melchester Rovers embark on a 30 match unbeaten run in the league, before losing at home to Everpool thanks to a fluke of a goal. Results stutter as Roy Race and Mervyn Wallace chase a £30,000 prize to be the first man to score 50 goals in the season.

Rover recover to finish with wins over Walford (3-1) and Tynecaster (4-0) to take the League Title. In the final match of the season Wallace scores his fiftieth goal, to net the prize money. Roy Race finished on 49, graciously conceding that the decisive last goal, was Mervyn's not his!

  1. A season review will be posted every Thursday until the 1992/93 season. That's 17 more weeks of stats, line-ups, squads and transfers!

I am thinking of writing newspaper style reports of the biggest matches to accompany these. Or if anyone else wants to do this let me know and I'll forward you a template.

  2. So we can say:
League: melchester champions (2.portdean as its mentioned in rotr)
League cup : swinford (played in the final at least)
FA cup : everpool ( sounds nice) , finalists are north vale ( they could be winners) who eliminated melchester
    charity shields: melchester and everpool

    1. I gave Everpool the F.A. Cup this season, they play Melchester in my 1977 Charity Shield story.

In this season (76/77) when Everpool beat Rovers, a fan says "...Everpool are struggling at the bottom of the table!" That was with only four games to go, so they had a poor league season.

  3. Just wondering to have a more detailed idea about the ROTR Universe for the season 76-77, do u by any chance know the Champions, FA Cup winners and League cup winners of the other ROTR strips? For the 76-77 season it could be Hard Man (Danefield), Smith and Son (Grandon Town), Safest Hands in Soccer (Tynefield Utd), Hot Shot Hamish (Princes Park, div3), Millionaire Villa (Selby Villa), i guess.

    1. Sorry I know nothing of the other stories. I have no comics, I just use the RotR scans from Strkav's site.

I understand Egmont plan to release all the complete comics in digital format soon. Maybe it will coincide with the start of the Premier League season. We'll have to wait and see. Their new website may as well be in Chinese for the sense it makes.

  5. I have the all annuals from 1980, but the stories tend to be stand alone ones, like mine. They're good for opposition player names but not much else.

The first two pages of WC78 are almost complete, just need to do the words. After your suggestion I have replaced Iran with Basran, that makes it more of a RotR World Cup. I'll put a preview scene on Twitter on Wednesday.

  6. Change of plan - with the 2013/14 progressing nicely, I'll do a season review on Monday's instead.

So a week looks like - SAT - New Story (Comic), MON - Season Review, WED - A New Beginning 2013/14, FRI - ROTR in 3D
